Monday Metaphor with a Mullein Plant
When I was on a walk this morning, a thought popped into my mind when I saw this flower blooming.
It is a mullein plant used for respiratory healing and I was drawn to the strong base, long middle, and beautiful yellow bloom.
I saw my life as a child starting at the base that is thick, deeply rooted, with learned behaviors and beliefs, love and family, decisions made for me, and what was inherited to me.
I moved up the stalk to my teen and young adult years where I learned lessons of friendship, heartache, love, and transitions.
Further up, my mid 20’s and 30’s where all my experiences were setting in and taking hold. Since my body couldn’t continue to ignore the holes that were at the base and leaves that led to deep pain, I wouldn’t allow my future to be diseased by what I had soaked up to this point. I wouldn’t allow it because there were so many lessons I learned, so much beauty I remembered, hardships that didn’t belong to me, and a family that loved me.
My roots and base shaped who I am today, strong and thick. I want to use the love, heartache, pain, joy, and gratitude to keep me strong, heal from the pain, allow continued growth, and to eventually bloom!
During the healing (middle of plant) I was at a crossroads and had to decide if I was going to allow what I absorbed and get eaten up by caterpillars and eventually die; or would I decide to harness my experiences to build a healthy middle, heal from the past, learn a new mindset, let the sun and water flow into me, and bloom so bright that the world can’t help but notice the gorgeous flower!
I view my experiences as a responsibility to grow strong and bright to allow me to shine with love. Love that we are born with, compassion for what was, acceptance for what is, and beauty for the growth within that eventually blooms outwardly.
I ask you…
What will you let go?
What will you keep that provides water and nutrients, instead of wilting and disease?
Don’t let your past eat you up like the caterpillars eat the leaves.
Allow the sun to shine into you, water run through you, and a beautiful flower to bloom!
Encourage others to shine bright and soon you will see a beautiful field of flowers!
